Healthcare Technology
I have chosen to discuss the intersection of healthcare and technology due to my extensive experience in this field. Over the past six years, my hospital in Ohio has witnessed significant technological growth. For example, floor cleaning, once performed by a manually operated machine, is now managed by self-driving automation equipped with advanced sensors and cameras. These LIDAR sensors collaborate to provide exceptional detection capabilities, skillfully avoiding obstacles like walls and pedestrians. This device not only cleans effectively, but also allows remote monitoring. Since my shifts are primarily at night, I’ve only observed the device operating during nighttime hours. I assume this scheduling is due to higher hospital traffic in daytime, which facilitates better device use for nighttime
Employees must also be aware of technological investments that enhance healthcare and patient outcomes. As a respiratory therapist, I frequently encounter new devices requiring self-education to improve patient care and efficiency. Technological improvements, such as robotic cleaning devices and integration of the ‘Martti’ application on iPads for language translation, are particularly impressive. Martti is a platform designed to ensure care is accessible anytime, anywhere, and supports multiple languages. This technology has proven invaluable in various scenarios, and I have personally leveraged it in patient care. In the coming years, I believe most tasks performed by healthcare personnel will be assisted by some form of technology, whether robotic or mechanical. This prediction is based on my current assessment of the rapid pace of technological advancement.
